Morondava is located in the west of the island of Madagascar, about 700 km from the capital Antananarivo (Tananarive). The city of Morondava is the economic and administrative capital of the Menabe region and the Morondava district. Morondava is part of the province of Tulear. The district of Mahabo is a district of the region of Menabe located in the west of Madagascar.

What to see in Morondava ?
The famous Baobab Alley:
You cannot miss this famous site if you reach Morondava via the national road from Antananarivo or if you understand joining Belo sur Tsiribihina from Morondava. Baobab Alley is 20 kilometers from the city. This alley is a real national treasure and is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Madagascar. The baobabs along the road are up to 30 meters long and are part of an endemic species called Andansonia grandidieri. It is visited at all hours of the day. Many photographers stay there until sunset for spectacular photos.
Morondava biodiversity: Kirindy Mitea
If you are in Morondava, Kirindy Mitea is an indispensable step to discover the rich biodiversity of the Morondava region. Kirindy Mitea is a nature reserve located next to the Andranomena Special Reserve. It is one of UNESCO’s 20 new biosphere reserves alone. Belo sur Mer :
Belo-sur-mer is a small fishing village located on a peninsula south of Morondava, 80 km from the city. The population of Belo-sur-Mer is known for its naval know-how. The local population of Belo-sur-Mer develops transport vessels that crisscross the Mozambique Canal and the Indian Ocean. The village is home to the salt pans of Antsira and is often referred to as «the salt attic of Madagascar».
Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park :
Created in 1997 in the center-west of Madagascar, about 300 kilometers from Tananarive, in the region of Melaky.
The Tsingy Nature Reserve is the result of tectonic slides lifting a huge limestone plate. The impressive limestone massifs of the Tsingy are unique formations in the world! The park is open during the dry period (June to November) due to the roads and paths that are not very practicable during the rainy period. The Tsingy of Bemaraha fascinates scientists with its 72,340 hectares, where 90 species of birds, 8 species of reptiles, and 10 species of lemurs live.
Tsingy de Bemaraha Integral Nature Reserve:
The Tsingy de Bemaraha Integral Nature Reserve is a 157,710-hectare protected area. It is one of the few regions with intact forests. Composed of lakes and mangroves, it serves as habitat for rare bird species and lemurs. The flora is extremely rich and has about 650 species of plants. This protected area has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1990.
It is located in the Melaky region, West of Madagascar and North of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. To reach the reserve of Morondava, you will have to travel 200 km of dirt track.
