Therapeutic Oxygen Onboard

If you need to use therapeutic oxygen during your flight, our team will make every effort to ensure a comfortable and safe trip.

Passenger Approval and Accommodations:

  • Pre-approval: Passengers requiring therapeutic oxygen must obtain prior approval from the airline before their flight.
  • Prioritized Boarding: Approved passengers will be given priority boarding to ensure a smooth boarding process.
  • Seating: The airline will assign a suitable seat that allows for easy access to the oxygen supply and any necessary medical equipment.

Equipment Requirements:

  • Personal Oxygen Concentrator: Passengers are typically required to bring their own portable oxygen concentrator.

Wheelchair Assistance

Need a Wheelchair?

If you are traveling with your own wheelchair or require assistance with airport mobility, please notify us of your wheelchair or any other mobility needs at least 72 hours before your departure.

You can inform us when purchasing your ticket or by booking assistance services using our special assistance form or by contacting our customer service at +261 20 22 510 00/+261 20 23 444 44.

Wheelchair Assistance Services Available

Wheelchair assistance is available for passengers requiring a wheelchair who have requested it for:

  • Traveling to and from the boarding gate
  • Clearing customs
  • Collecting baggage
  • Boarding the aircraft (WCHS)

Please note: Passengers who are completely immobile (WCHC) and require a wheelchair to board and disembark the aircraft, and who need to be lifted up and down stairs as well as to and from their seats, must be accompanied by a travel companion to assist them on board.

A medical certificate may be required. Generally, this is not necessary for passengers with reduced mobility who only require assistance or special treatment. However, depending on the reason for reduced mobility, a medical certificate may be necessary if the disability is due to an illness, for example.

Medical Assistance for Passengers

To ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers, Madagascar Airlines has established specific procedures for travelers requiring medical assistance. These procedures apply to individuals who:

  • Have a contagious disease
  • Have a fragile or unstable medical condition
  • Require specific medical equipment during the flight
  • Have a physical or mental disability

Medical Certificate

For flights departing from provinces, passengers requiring medical assistance (medical evacuation, medical repatriation, use of a wheelchair) must present a medical certificate certifying their fitness to fly.

  • Deadline: No later than one week before departure.
  • Validation: The certificate must be validated by an approved local physician no later than 4 hours before takeoff.

Passengers with Reduced Mobility

Passengers with reduced mobility who do not require specific medical authorization may travel under the following conditions:

  • Individuals with a simple fracture or injury
  • Elderly individuals with reduced mobility
  • Individuals with a physical disability requiring a wheelchair, provided that the disability has been stable for at least 6 months
  • Individuals with visual or hearing impairments
  • Individuals with mental health conditions (other than those mentioned above)

For other cases of disability, particularly mental disabilities, an individual assessment will be carried out by a competent medical service.

General Safety Conditions

  • The airline reserves the right to refuse boarding to any passenger whose medical condition could jeopardize the safety of the flight or other passengers.
  • Some passengers requiring special assistance may need to be accompanied by a person capable of providing the necessary care during the journey.
  • Personal medical equipment must be declared at the time of booking and must comply with applicable regulations.

Requesting a Medical Evacuation with Madagascar Airlines

To request a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), please contact your nearest Madagascar Airlines agency directly.

Required Documentation

Your request must include the following documents:

  • Detailed Medical Certificate: Issued by your general practitioner, specifying:
    • Your medical condition and diagnosis
    • Current treatments
    • Required in-flight care (oxygen, stretcher, etc.)
    • Reason for the medical evacuation
  • Completed MEDIF Form: A completed and signed Medical Information Form (MEDIF). This form is specific to Madagascar Airlines and will be provided by the agency.
