New Screening Measures to Prevent Avian Influenza in Madagascar

To safeguard Madagascar's poultry industry and public health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has introduced new preventive measures against Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

Prohibited Items

Passengers arriving from Reunion Island are kindly requested to refrain from carrying the following items:

  • Poultry: Live poultry, hatching eggs, poultry meat (raw, frozen, or processed).
  • Livestock Products: Used poultry equipment.

Why These Restrictions?

These measures are part of our preventative efforts to prevent the introduction of avian influenza into Madagascar. This highly contagious disease can cause significant economic losses for poultry farmers.

Additional Measures

Enhanced health checks will be implemented at international airports. All parcels and luggage will be systematically disinfected.
