Strictly Prohibited Items

For safety reasons, the following items are strictly prohibited on all Madagascar Airlines flights, both in the cabin and in checked baggage:

Strictly Prohibited Items on Board

  • Flammable and Explosive Substances: Gasoline, paint, herbicide, camping stove, LPG, ammunition, fireworks.
  • Hazardous Materials: Poison, bleach.
  • Electrical devices with batteries exceeding 160 Wh: For example, hoverboards, electric bikes, large power tools.
  • Batteries: Lithium batteries exceeding 160 Wh.
    • Calculating the energy of a battery Wh = V x Ah
    • Damaged, defective or recalled lithium devices or batteries are not allowed for transport
    • Backup external and charging batteries must be individually protected to avoid short circuits
    • Lithium ion batteries: watthour charge must not be greater than 100 Wh

Electronic Devices: Important Guidelines

Electronic devices such as computers, cameras, and smartphones are permitted on board. However, for security reasons, we recommend that you:

  • Carry them on board: Do not leave your valuable electronic devices in checked baggage.
  • Protect them: Use protective cases or covers for your devices.

Why These Restrictions?

These restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of all passengers on board our aircraft. Certain items can be dangerous in the event of an incident and may jeopardize the lives of those on board.

Requiring Declaration Prior to Boarding

To ensure a safe and comfortable flight, please be aware that the following items are strictly forbidden on all Madagascar Airlines flights due to safety concerns:

  • Weapons and ammunition: Firearms, bladed weapons, ammunition of all kinds.
  • Explosives: Bombs, construction explosives, fireworks, firecrackers, etc.
  • Compressed gases: Gas refills, aerosols containing toxic or flammable substances (including defense sprays).
  • Flammable liquids: Gasoline, thinners, varnishes, etc.
  • Flammable solids: Substances liable to spontaneous combustion (white phosphorus), substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases (alkali metals), etc.
  • Dangerous materials:
    • Corrosives (acids, bases, mercury)
    • Toxic and infectious substances (pesticides, cyanide, pathogens)
    • Radioactive materials
  • Sharp or blunt objects: Knives, scissors, tools, razor blades, axes, etc.
  • Objects that can be used as improvised weapons: Sticks, baseball bats, etc.
